- Mobile County, AL: The Mobile County Health Department Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Program celebrated its first National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy this year. They held a local health fair on April 30th. Pamphlets informing the community about their initiative were also made available. During the fair, the HIV/STI’s video, “Reflections,” was playing for attendees to view. Additionally, they distributed National Day flyers throughout the community to encourage teens to take the National Day Quiz on May 4th.

- Globe, AZ: Two local high schools—Miami High School and Globe High School—prepared an assembly entitled “Look Before You Leap” for all 9th-12th grade students on the National Day. Using a mix of comedy and drama, this multi-media presentation was a high energy and unique approach to the topic of sexual health. Their goal of the activity was to inform and inspire students to pursue healthy relationships and avoid risky sexual behavior.
- Prescott, AZ: North Star Youth Partnership hosted a number of activities to recognize the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, as well as Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month:
- Their 12th Annual Teen Maze was held April 27-29. Teen Maze is like a life-size game board featuring information on teen pregnancy, STDs, media influence, safe dates, date rape, legal rights of teens, substance abuse and much more. About 1,100 teens attended the event and each received a bag featuring information about the National Day Quiz and how to take it on May 4.
- On May 4th, they hosted their annual Teen Pregnancy Prevention Community Breakfast. This event was attended by governmental officials, school personnel, youth, and community leaders. At the event, they recognized their Teens Taking Action group and their many contributions to the community. They also announced their 5th Annual Community Youth Advocate Award.
- Their 10th annual Girls & Sports Day for 350 girls ages 7-16 took place on May 21. A variety of sports were featured and they distributed health information to all attendees. In addition, Julie Marie Carrier, a top speaker for girls in the nation, spoke to event attendees. Girls & Sports Day is designed to help girls make good choices in their lives and promote a healthy lifestyle.
- Lastly, hosted Tory Gant of the national Peer Assistance Leadership Program (PAL) on May 9th and 10th. He made presentations at three different schools. Tory promotes leadership and the avoidance of risk-taking behaviors.

- Chula Vista , CA: In celebration of the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, the Sweetwater Union High School District and the South Bay Healthy Relationships for Youth Action Group held their 3rd annual parent/child communication event “Let’s Talk”. This event included a parent education class, offered in both in English and Spanish, where parents were taught how to have difficult discussions with their children about sex, puberty, healthy relationships, and self-respect. While the parents attended their class, Peer Educators conducted activities with the youth in a separate room. After the two, separated, groups finished their activities; they came together for a group unifying activity which enabled them to begin using these newly acquired skills. To help commemorate this event, the Sweetwater Union High School District issued an official proclamation that May is Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month for the entire School District. The mayor of Chula Vista presented the city’s declaration of the event as well. In addition to this event, they also hosted a nacho party at their Youth 2 Youth Center on May 4th for students of Sweetwater High School after school. They had computers available for youth to take the National Day Quiz and offered free National Day lanyards, buttons and pens as giveaways.
- Contra Costa County, CA: Contra Costa County Office of Education CCG Collaboration was invited by Six Flags Discovery Kingdom again in 2011 to host tables in the Vallejo Theme Park for their Annual Teen Health and Safety Day on May 20, 2011. CCG sub-contractors distributed pregnancy prevention brochures and encouraged park visitors to engage in the HIV/STI Jeopardy Spin the Wheel Quiz. National Day lanyards, pens, and other donated prizes were given to participants. Simulated "Reality Check" dolls were displayed for teachers and administrators to learn and receive a hands-on experience of their "Babies" program.
- Fremont, CA: On May 4, 2011, Tri-City Health Center (TCHC) hosted its third celebration of The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy at the Teen Center of Newark Memorial High School (NMHS.) As part of the celebrations, the NMHS Teen Center and the TCHC Teen Clinic hosted a mini resource fair during lunch time, which saw approximately 150 participating teens. The TCHC team distributed the National Day Quiz to NMHS students. Participants received a National Day goodie bag with health education materials and an incentive gift card. The resource fair featured tables with information about the recreational and support services offered after school at the Teen Center. The TCHC team also distributed health educational brochures and literature focusing on STDs and birth control methods and informed students about the sexual and reproductive health services available to teens at the Teen Clinic in Alameda County. Two NMHS teens, “Celina Health and Izzy Prevention” who were pictured in a current bus advertisement were at the event to talk about the Teen Center and their personal experience in the after school program. A DJ adorned the festivities, which also included games, National Day giveaways (pens, buttons, and candy), prizes, and a raffle for an IPOD. The National Day quiz responses are being stored for evaluating the Teen Center program. The teens that participated in the National day event were referred to Tri-City Health Center, a non-profit community clinic in Fremont, CA, which has been providing services to the underserved for over 40 years. The event helped TCHC promote its Teen Clinic which is dedicated to providing information and services to youth within the ages of 12-24. TCHC recognizes the fact that youth have their own specials needs and has established the Teen City Clinic to answer and serve the Tri-City youth with much needed health care and advice.
- Fresno, CA: Planned Parenthood Mar Monte hosted youth in their Drop-In Center on Wednesday, May 4th for a “Take the Quiz Party.” Youth were provided with food and an opportunity to access a computer to take the National Day Quiz. Participants were also registered for a raffle.
- Rosemead, CA: In recognition of the National Day, the Clean Slate program at the Women’s Federation for World Peace - Southern California hosted a seminar called “Healthy Relationships Protect Teens.” Teens were invited to attend the seminar, which focused around setting and achieving goals while making smart decisions to prevent an unplanned pregnancy. The seminar will feature musical entertainment and a guest speaker who is a teen mother of three.
- Salinas, CA: The Monterey County Health Department participated in The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy by setting up tables at two Salinas high schools. Peer educators helped to run the tables and distribute information and resources to teens. Additionally, they promoted their teen pregnancy prevention program throughout the community with a series of press releases.
- Watsonville, CA: The YWCA of Watsonville partnered with local agencies to host their 2nd Annual Stay Teen! Pregnancy Prevention and Awareness Day on May 4th at GHWR Youth Center. The event included information about safe sex and healthy living, entertainment, food, resource tables, games, prizes, and more.
- West Covina, CA: East Valley Community Health Center had a Teen C.I.T.Y. DJ Battle in honor of National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. At the event, there were booths with information about teen pregnancy prevention, birth control, STIs, and more. They also conducted an assessment to review risk factors affecting area youth.

- Boulder County, CO: GENESISTER -- a sibling’s teen pregnancy prevention program -- discussed the National Day during a GENESISTER group meeting on May 4th in Longmont and May 10th in Boulder. The following weekend, program participants hosted a booth where they gave out National Day information to community members, parents, and teens. They planned to promote the National Day Quiz and discussion guides, as well as other fun teen pregnancy prevention health education related activities.

- New London, CT: In recognition of the National Day, Families United hosted a Teen Health and Wellness min-expo. Local counseling and mental health agencies, youth group services, and pediatric, physical, and reproductive health clinics were all represented. At the end of the expo, teens were eligible for door prize giveaways sponsored by the local agencies in attendance.

- Washington, DC: The Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy- Parkside Campus HS and P.E.A.R.L.S. developed a National Day campaign titled “Let’s Chill and Wait.” This year, they held an art contest to creatively depict a message about teen pregnancy prevention. Participants are asked to submit their artwork the week prior to the National Day, so other students could vote for their favorite submitted piece of artwork during their lunch period on the National Day. Winners and prizes were distributed at the end of the day.

- Augusta, GA: The East Central Health District worked hard to raise awareness of the National Day in their community. Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver signed a proclamation in support of the National Day at an event in Richmond County. They brought the National Day Quiz to Burke County High School and C.H. Terrell Academy, as well as made the quiz available at the Richmond County Health Department. They also hung banners highlighting teen pregnancy prevention in each of their thirteen county health department buildings and created PSAs for movie theaters and radio stations about the importance of teen pregnancy prevention.
- Calhoun, GA: In recognition of The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, Family Connection of Gordon County planned newspaper and radio stories about local teen moms for the month of May. They also distributed posters, bookmarks, and postcards with local statistics, along with a brochure from the Georgia Governor’s Office for Children and Families titled "Teens, Sex and the Law: A Guide for Teens and Parents.”
- Macon, GA: Teen Scene Youth Center (TS) hosted a number of activities to recognize Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, as well as the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.
- As a kick-off to Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, Teen Scene hosted “Clubbin at the Scene” Teen Night April 29, 2011. This Teen Night is designed to give teens the opportunity to openly discuss health topics including pregnancy, STDs, drugs, and relationships through various creative outlets including poetry, art, music and much more.
- On May 4th, TS released Public Serve Announcements written and recorded by students, on Facebook, You Tube, Twitter, and local radio and TV stations. The PSAs focused on Teen Pregnancy and STD Awareness in recognition of STD Awareness Month (April) and Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month (May).
- In order to inform the Middle Georgia Community, Teen Scene hosted a Teen Pregnancy Prevention Town Hall Meeting on May 17, 2011. - Chicago, IL: Stay Environmentally Focusd' NFP Foundation hosted the “More Than Just a Baby” Interactive Q & A Summit at Paul Robeson High School on May 4th from 9:30-11:30AM. The event included music, performances, and discussions of a variety of issues related to sexual health.
- Moline, IL: Bethany for Children & Families, in conjunction with Edgerton Women’s Health Center and the Scott County Health Department, hosted a teen forum, entitled T.O.P. (Teens on Point) to kickoff Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at Bethany for Children & Families, Moline. Invitations were sent to area high schools, asking each school to bring one student and one staff member. The forum provided an opportunity for teens, parents, school personnel, social service providers, and community members to discuss how teen pregnancy is affecting the community and what steps should be taken to reduce its prevalence. After the discussion was completed, the groups re-convened to share respective findings and direction for action in the upcoming year. A press conference was scheduled at 11:00 a.m., at which time the findings and direction for action were revealed to the media. The press conference was scheduled to be held in Bethany for Children & Families’ Education Center, which is located at 1830 6th Avenue in Moline.

- Fall River, MA: In honor of the National Day, Resiliency Preparatory School will raised awareness throughout the school by displaying student-created posters about teen pregnancy prevention. They also incorporated episodes of MTV's 16 and Pregnant into group counseling sessions using the discussion guides provided by The National Campaign.
- Holyoke, MA: Mayor Elaine Pluta of Holyoke hosted the “2nd Annual Kick-Off Campaign Supporting the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy” at City Hall.
- Holyoke, MA: In honor of the National Day, the La Linda Manita Program at Holyoke Health Center held a drop-in to distribute information on teen pregnancy prevention.
- Holyoke, MA: Girls Inc. of Holyoke Teen Center (http://www.girlsincholyoke.org/) hosted the “You Have Choices!” walk through Holyoke- starting at Girls Inc, 6 Open Square Way at 4:00pm and ending at Picknelly Adult and Family Education Center, 206 Maple Street to raise awareness about teen pregnancy prevention. The event was followed by a video screening of “TLC- Building Healthy Relationships” at Picknelly Adult and Family Education Center at 5:00pm.
- Holyoke, MA: Visitors to the Holyoke Public Library 335 Maple Street and the Providence Prenatal Center, 384 High Street were able to take the National Day Quiz all day long on May 4th.
- Lawrence, MA: The Lawrence Coalition on Teen Pregnancy (LCTP), a working group of the Lawrence Mayors Health Task Force Youth Network, hosted an informational event for teens about how to prevent pregnancy, after school on May 4th. Information about local resources, services, as well as sexual health information and condoms were given out to teens and parents at this event. LCTP also surveyed youth about where they get sexual health information.
- Lynn, MA: On the National Day, Girls Incorporated of Lynn hosted a carnival in the evening with a sex education theme to engage all teens ages 14-19 in conversation and activities about potential consequences of teen pregnancy. The purpose of the carnival was for teens to have fun learning, have an opportunity to ask questions, meet providers within the community, and obtain resources to make responsible choices for themselves. Teens also had an opportunity to complete the National Day Quiz online.
- Springfield, MA: In honor of National Day, Dunbar Community Health Center hosted an event from 4pm-8pm to raise awareness about teen pregnancy prevention. Activities included raffle prizes, a health fair, speakers, a basketball tournament, games, and more.

- Detroit, MI: Project-U-Turn Inc. in partnership with Detroit City Councilman James Tate's Teen Pregnancy Prevention Collaboration presented, "Seriously, I CAN WAIT!" a free event on May 4, 2011, 7pm-9pm at The R.O.A.D. Church 15425 Schaefer Hwy. Detroit, MI. 48227 to bring awareness to teen pregnancy prevention. They held panel discussions: Teen Parent Reality Show, Boyfriend/Girlfriend Thang, special musical guest "Mahogany Jones" and Youth Keeping It Real Drama Team, food, giveaways, and more.
- Marshall, MI: TP3 (Teen Pregnancy Prevention Partnership of Calhoun County, MI) will traveled to local high schools throughout May in recognition of The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. They administered the National Day Quiz and provided immediate feedback on answers, as well as provided information about teen pregnancy prevention and local services throughout the area. TP3 also provided snacks and giveaways..
- Royal Oak, MI: School District of the City of Royal Oak supported the National Day with numerous activities at Royal Oak High School and Royal Oak Middle School. They distributed flyers and National Day promotional items to encourage teens at both schools to participate. In addition, held a "Stay Teen in Royal Oak" Youth Resource Fair on May 4th during lunch periods to encourage teens to get involved. They also planned teen pregnancy discussions for various clubs, including their Be the Change Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, and Gay-Straight Alliance. In the middle school, they reached out to parents of 8th grade students with information about the event. They also linked to the National Day Quiz from their website, issued a press release in support of the event, submitted articles and letters to the editor to local newspapers, and reached out the local community groups to encourage them to get involved.

- Belknap-Merrimack Counties, NH: CAP Belknap-Merrimack Counties Family Planning Programs partnered with twenty area schools to promote the National Day by having their health students take the online quiz. In addition, Plymouth Family Planning Teen Clinic provided free services to teens from 2-6 PM on May 4th in honor of the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.

- Atlantic City, NJ: The Southern New Jersey Perinatal Cooperative's Atlantic City office distributed educational materials to the two local high schools to promote teen pregnancy prevention and the National Day. The goal is to encourage the teens to participate in the National Day activities and take the online quiz. The educational material provided the teens with accurate information on teenage pregnancy and access for ongoing information and support.
- Bridgeton, NJ: The Bridgeton Municipal Alliance – Youth to Youth program planned their 2nd annual National Day To Prevent Teen Pregnancy Café’ event to draw attention to the National Day. Attendees were able to take the National Day Quiz online and participate in a variety of other activities, including spoken word performances and giveaways. They were also livestreaming event participants’ responses to the question “Why doesn’t teen pregnancy fit into the puzzle pieces of your life?” on their Twitter, Facebook, and blog. This event was made possible through a grant from the Cumberland County Human Services Advisory Council.

- Mid Hudson Valley Area, NY: Planned Parenthood of the Mid Hudson Valley’s Ulster County educator Danielle Loftus teamed up with Ulster Community College’s Vox chapter to hold a National Day event on May 4th from 11 AM-1:30 PM. They hosted tables outside the cafeteria at Ulster Community College where they were handing out National Day Quizzes and also hosting a hot salsa eating contest.
- New York, NY: Youth participants in Inwood House’s Teen Choice teen pregnancy prevention program amd P.R.I.M.E. Leaders youth development program took the National Day Quiz on May 4th and participated in small group discussions.
- New York, NY: Washington Irving High School’s peer health education group announced sexual health facts and made posters to display in the week leading up to the National Day. On May 4th, the school held a reproductive health fair to promote the National Day. Students had the opportunity to compete in games and contests to test their sexual health knowledge. Additionally, Irving High School’s School Based Health Clinic had a table in the cafeteria once a week during the month of May to serve as a resource for questions, distribute condoms, and more.
- Syracuse, NY: REACH CNY, Inc. participated in its' first observance of the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy by coordinating the official launch of their new Comprehensive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (CAPP) program. Participating CAPP providers had pledge cards for youth available at program sites throughout Syracuse in the week leading up to National Day and encouraged their youth to participate in the National Day quiz and games. REACH CNY, Inc. staff also made media appearances on both local television and radio shows in order to promote the National Day and the availability of new pregnancy prevention services for adolescents and their families in Onondaga County, NY.

- Gastonia, NC: The Gaston County Health Department hosted an art exhibit entitled, “A Day in the Life of a Teen and a Teen Mom” on May 12th to recognize Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. Volunteers from their Teen Outreach Program (TOP) and Teen Parenting Program were asked to take pictures or create other art that represented an average day in their lives. The art was displayed to compare the lives of teens with and without children. The exhibit was held at the Highland Health Center: 609 N. Highland St. in Gastonia, NC.

- Akron, OH: Altruistic Organization Inc. recognized the National Day with an event entitled "Books over Babies." The event took place at the Patterson Park Community Center on May 4th and combined the arts, lively discussions, and personal testomonies to reach teens with messages about risky sexual behavior. They had a teenage mother and her mother speak to attendees about their personal experiences with teen pregnancy and how it has affected their lives. In addition, the event covered topics like sexting, dating violence, and much more.
- Columbus, OH: The Center for Healthy Families hosted several National Day sessions from 8am -2:30pm at two Columbus Public Schools. The focus 2011’s activity was to help teens understand the personal and financial costs of teen pregnancy. Students took the National Day Quiz and also heard from several current pregnant and parenting teens.

- Oklahoma City, OK: The Oklahoma Institute For Child Advocacy be promoted the National Day through a partnership with several high schools in the Oklahoma City area. They distributed National Day materials and “survival kits” to over 3,000 teens. The “survival kits” included items such as a Baby Ruth to remind young people that this is “the only baby that you want as a teen” and a stick of gum to remind them to “stick to their decision to remain abstinent.”

- Statewide, OR: A dozen teens from the Oregon Department of Human Services’ My Future-My Choice Teen Advisory Board ran their own Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month campaigns around the state throughout May. They planned a range of awareness activities, including participating in health fairs, writing articles for local newspapers, placing teen pregnancy facts in school announcements, making and distributing pocket guides with information about local sexual health services, putting up flyers and "potty facts" around school, and manning lunch time tables.

- Philadelphia, PA: Spectrum Health Services, Inc. encouraged teens to participate in the National Day. One activity they planned for their health centers allowed teens to anonymously write a word or sentence on a card describing why they want to avoid becoming a pregnant or parenting teen. These cards were then displayed in the waiting room of each Spectrum Health Services, Inc. health center. Additionally, they made information about abstinence and birth controls methods, a birth control crossword puzzle, teen pregnancy statistics and a "Myth vs. Fact" sheet about sex available in their waiting room.

- Statewide, South Carolina: The South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy has many events planned to draw attention to the issue of teen pregnancy in May. Just a few are highlighted below:
- On May 4, they held a Young Professionals Oyster and Wine Night at a local restaurant in Columbia. Proceeds from the sales of food and wine from the night were donated to the SC Campaign, which were then given back to local efforts in Richland County.
- May 6th, the SC Campaign hosted a Faith Leaders Lunch-N-Learn in Florence County where they met with leaders in the faith community to discuss their role in teen pregnancy prevention and answered questions and concerns.
- The SC Campaign announced the grand prize winner of the 2011 Teen Expressions contest at The Trustus Theatre in Columbia, SC on May 10th. Members of the Columbia community were invited to attend From the Page to the Stage: What is Your Reality? Brandi Cummings from WIS TV-Columbia hosted a reception and reading of outstanding Teen Expressions entries performed by the Trustus Youth Apprentice Company. The grand prize winner was announced at the end of the performance. They received nearly 1,500 votes this year for six talented finalists: Tareka Rose Jackson, Princess Moss, Eleanor Lee, Chelsea Jarrell, Vincent Baker and Taylor Esposito. First, second and third place winners were determined by the largest number of votes received. The event was open to the public.
- On May 11th, there was a mayor proclamation in Newberry County in the City of Newberry. The Mayor, along with other public officials, were on-hand to present the SC Campaign with the signed proclamation and hear from SC Campaign CEO Forrest Alton on the state of teen pregnancy in South Carolina and in particular how teen birth rates fair in Newberry County.
- On May 19th, SC Campaign staff, along with other health professionals, was manning a phone bank for WLTX- News 19 in Columbia where they answered questions from parents about how to talk with their children about love, sex and relationships.
- Cummings, SC: Jerusalem Baptist Church recognized the National Day with a lively evening discussion on the importance of preventing teen pregnancies. Teen JBC members encouraged people to bring five (5) friends to attend our first event. The event took place on May 4th at 5PM and was combined with short discussions, and personal testimonies to reach teens about the consequences of risky sexual behavior. Laptops were set up in the Fellowship Hall for teens to complete the National Day Quiz and they also heard from a parenting teen.
- Hardeeville, SC: Hardeeville Middle High School recognized The National Day by having students ages 13 and up take the National Day Quiz on May 1st and 2nd. On May 18, faculty and high school guidance counselors discussed the importance of waiting and delaying pregnancy during their Prom Talk program.
- Ridgeland, SC: Ridgeland High School recognized the National Day with a cupcake and brochure, etc. distribution during lunch in the cafeteria. The event took place on May 4th and combined short discussions and personal testimonies to reach students with messages about risky sexual behavior and the importance of preventing teen pregnancies. Students also took the National Day Quiz on May 1st and 2nd.

- Memphis, TN: Memphis Teen Vision (MemTV) hosted a Community Awareness Breakfast on May 4th to promote the National Day. The event was free and open to anyone who works with teens. They discussed how teen pregnancies are affecting their children, their community, and their future. Additionally, they shared information about local agencies that are working together to address the problem. The event was sponsored by the Shelby County Health Department Healthy Start Program, United HealthCare, Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region, the University of Memphis Center for Research on Women, and the Memphis Center for Reproductive Health.
- Middle Tennessee-Nashville, TN: Decisions, Choices and Options hosted a community forum on teen pregnancy on May 13, 2011. The event was for middle school and high school students and their parents and featured guest speakers Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra of MTV’s Teen Mom. There was also a panel discussion with medical professionals, educators, a teen mom, and the parents of a teen parent. They offered door prize drawings, food, and resources from community organizations that deal with teen pregnancy.
- Nashville, TN:The LYDIA Society of Nashville held an ice cream social for their National Day. At this event teens were encouraged to participate in the National Day Quiz.
- Nashville and Davidson County, TN: The Metro Public Health Department’s (MPHD) Adolescent Pregnancy, Parenting, and Prevention Program honored the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy by offering free STI testing, HIV/AIDS screening, and pregnancy tests to teens that were interested. Additionally, MPHD provided educational materials about teen pregnancy and STI and HIV/AIDS prevention.

- Dallas, TX: Girls Living Life On Purpose, Inc in partnership with Youth Conversion, GICOP and other youth serving agencies hosted the 2nd Annual No Baby! You Ain't Ready Rally for teen girls. - San Antonio, TX: Project WORTH and Healthy Futures of Texas hosted a National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy press conference on May 4th at 10am. Elected officials along with community partners and teens attended to hear the latest on local teen birth data. Project WORTH, Healthy Futures of Texas and Metro Health also re-launched the ME NOW baby later campaign. In addition, Girls Inc. of San Antonio, an affiliate of Girls Inc. National hosted a documentary screening event called REALity vs. reality: A Raw Take on Teen Moms on May 10th at 5:30pm.

- Alexandria, VA: The Alexandria Campaign on Adolescent Pregnancy (ACAP) and the Alexandria Health Department’s Teen Wellness Center (TWC) Youth Advisory Group wore self-created shirts and conducted outreach at T.C. Williams High School on the National Day. YAG has 10-15 members ranging in age from 15-18 years old. The members created t-shirts based on facts and other information from StayTeen.org to spark conversation about teen pregnancy prevention. YAG members were with ACAP staff at a table during lunch to provide students with information about teen pregnancy, services provided by the Teen Wellness Center, and the National Day Quiz. All Alexandria resident teens aged 12-19 are eligible to receive free services that include immunizations, routine/sports physicals, treatment of minor illness, STI/HIV testing, along with pregnancy prevention, testing, health education, and mental health counseling services Monday-Friday on the grounds of T.C. Williams High School. Additionally, ACAP hosted a variety of great events all month long to engage a variety of audiences.
- Norfolk, VA: In recognition of National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month in May, the Norfolk Department of Public Health (NDPH) hosted a Commercial Competition encouraging teens to promote the message that they're Worth the Wait (WTW)! Youth between the ages of 10-18 years old can audition with a 30- to 60-second message on teen pregnancy prevention, abstinence, STD or HIV prevention. Auditions were held on May 14, 2011 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and the top three contestants were featured on the WTW (Worth the Wait) Teen Pregnancy Prevention Facebook page where viewers had a chance to vote on their favorite contestant. In addition to the Commercial Competition, NDPH hosted WTW (Worth the Wait) Community Day on June 4, 2011 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Norview Community Center in Norfolk, VA. WTW Community Day is designed to empower adolescents to change their behavior in ways that will reduce their risk for pregnancy and their risk of becoming infected with HIV and other STDs. The Community Day featured live performances, Zumba classes, music, breakout sessions, dramatic role play, and much more! - Norfolk, VA: In honor of The National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, Resilient Family Services, Inc. hosted a prevention and awareness event for the entire community at Miracle of Faith Baptist Church. The event featured four breakout sessions, which involved discussions on relationships, talking to your parent/talking to your child, sex education, and self-awareness: are you really ready to be a teen parent.
- Petersburg, VA: In recognition of National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, Crater Health District's HealthSpace Teen Center held An Evening of Elegance on Friday May 6 at the Union Train Staton for 60 Petersburg area teens honoring them for their healthy lifestyle choices. The Mistress of Ceremonies was Miss Black Virginia USA 2011, Christie Black, and the guest speaker was Jasmine Abrams, Miss VSU/CIAA 2010. The event was attended by Petersburg Mayor Brian Moore, several city councilmen, local dignitaries, and supportive parents and guardians. This evening was intended to motivate, encourage, and honor these nominated young women with expressions of uplift through speech, song, dance and poetry. This semi formal catered event is sponsored by HealthSpace Teen Center in partnership with The Cameron Foundation.
- Roanoke, VA: Carilion Clinic Children's Hospital held an art contest entitled "Be a Teen Now & A Parent Later." They turned the winning entry from this contest into a billboard which was displayed in six locations in May. Additionally, they planned an event at a local mall to display all of the contest entries in the month of May. They also worked with area schools to schedule viewings of MTV’s Teen Mom with nearly 500 students during health classes. Each viewing was followed by a discussion session and teens received handouts with information about the importance of delaying parenting.

- Monongalia County, WV: Monongalia County Early Head Start planned to promote the National Day by distributing flyers in the local high schools, alternative teen education programs, and through their Teens as Parents program.

- Madison, WI: Goodman Community Center hosted a workshop put on by youth educators from Wisconsin Adolescent Health Care Communication Program. The workshop, entitled “Keepin' It Real with Your Doctor," empowered teens to take advantage of the knowledge, advice and treatment that health care providers through a series of skits, games and other activities. They also set up laptops at The Loft teen center to allow students to take the National Day Quiz. Volunteers from Planned Parenthood, AIDS Network, and other organizations tabled the event and they had a station where teens could ask questions pertaining to sexual health. Youth from the teen center were able to come in and get important sexual health information along with food and good music provided by their teen DJ club.
