Some may wonder what makes The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy unique. Below is a summary of some of the principles that have guided us to date and that will be used in our efforts going forward.
To achieve our objectives, The National Campaign has adopted a two-part strategy:
- Building a more coordinated and effective grassroots movement and
- Influencing cultural values and messages by working with the entertainment media and such other influential sectors in society as faith communities.
The National Campaign's approach at both levels is distinctive in at least four ways:
- We are non-ideological and have worked hard to reduce the conflict that too often has impeded action on this issue.
- We listen carefully to young people themselves and allow their unique viewpoints to inform our work.
- We are working in highly leveraged ways with some of the most powerful individuals and organizations in America to help in achieving our goals.
- We rely extensively on high-quality research to inform everything we do.
A top-flight Board of Directors provides overall direction to The National Campaign. This governing group is assisted by a number of advisory panels —including those focused on Media, Research, Public Policy, Personal Responsiblity/Religion/Public Values, State and Local action, Latino outreach, and bipartisan advisory panels in the House and Senate—that work directly with the Board and with the 30-member staff.
