Teen Childbearing and Taxes: What’s the Connection?
March 22, 2007
The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy hosted a national conference call to encourage individuals to use Tax Day (April 16th) as a hook to highlight the costs of teen childbearing. As reported in By the Numbers, a key public cost component is lost tax revenue (both state and federal) due to lower earnings and spending for teen mothers, teen fathers, and the children of teen parents.
The call featured speakers from the National Campaign and the National Conference of State Legislatures who provided tips on how to frame the issue with policymakers and the press. Additionally, the Georgia Campaign on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and Communities in Schools of Wayne County shared examples of their education and outreach on the costs of teen childbearing.
