With approximately half a million children in foster care, these youth are at significant risk for pregnancy. This risk has serious human and financial consequences for teens, their families, and the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.  However, teens within the foster care system have been largely overlooked in terms of teen pregnancy prevention and reproductive health education.  While significant progress has occurred,  it remains that little is known about the youth in foster care, their needs and how to best address the high rates of teen and unplanned pregnancy among this population.
