The Pregnancy Pact
Lifetime Television,
January 23, 9pm ET
Inspired by a true story, the film explores the consequences of teen pregnancy with a story of a fictional pregnancy pact set against the backdrop of actual news reports about teen pregnancy from June 2008. Sidney Bloom (Thora Birch), an on-line journalist, returns to her hometown to investigate the spike in teenage pregnancy at her old high school; Lorraine Dougan (Nancy Travis), the head of the local conservative values group, finds that her daughter, Sara, is newly pregnant at 15. Meanwhile, the school nurse (Camryn Manheim) stirs the long-standing debate about whether or not the school should provide condoms to students. A media firestorm erupts when Time Magazine reports that the sudden rise in teen pregnancy is the result of a pregnancy pact. As the mystery unfolds about whether or not the pact is real, Sidney soon realizes that the media attention is disguising the much larger issues that are at the core of the story.
To raise awareness, spark conversation and provide educational tools for prevention, Lifetime and The National Campaign are working in partnership to offer free resources to parents and teens on myLifetime.com:
