Ideas for Getting Involved in the 2008 National Day

Here are some quick and easy tips for get involved with the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Are you planning to do something on the National Day? Send us an email at nationalday@thenc.org and let us know!

Websites:

  1. Provide a link to the National Day Quiz at www.stayteen.org on your website on May 7, 2008, or during the entire month of May.
  2. Post a National Day web banner or image on May 7, 2008, or during the entire month of May.
  3. Sponsor a contest on the topic of teen pregnancy on your website.
  4. Host a web chat/online forum for teens on the topic of teen pregnancy.
  5. Post a teen pregnancy article with a link to the Quiz at www.stayteen.org.

National Organizations:

  1. Download National Day brochures and send them to your local affiliates.
  2. Become an official National Day Partner.
  3. Provide a link to the National Day Quiz at www.stayteen.org on your website on May 7, 2008, or during the entire month of May.
  4. Post a National Day web banner (coming soon) on May 7, 2008, or during the entire month of May.
  5. Publish a newsletter article to promote the National Day.
  6. Create Public Service Announcements for the National Day.
  7. Get in touch with state and national policymakers to encourage them to promote the National Day, and/or issue a proclamation or resolution.

Local Organizations:

  6. Organize a National Day event to raise awareness and encourage teens to take the quiz.
  7. Send out a press release to your local media outlets about your efforts to promote the National Day.

  9. Get in touch with state and local policymakers to encourage them to promote the National Day and/or issue a proclamation or resolution.

  3. Order and distribute National Day promotional materials, such as wristbands, pens, and temporary tattoos (coming soon).
  4. Host or sponsor a forum in your community on the topic of teen pregnancy.
  5. Provide incentives (coupons, products, etc.) for teens to take the National Day Quiz.
  6. Offer discounts to any teens who bring in proof that they took the quiz, and advertise this in your business.

Policymakers:

  1. Issue a proclamation or resolution in support of the National Day.
  2. Use the National Day to introduce a new initiative or highlight a current event.
  3. Sponsor a teen pregnancy prevention event.
  4. Create a Public Service Announcement or issue a press release on the National Day.
  5. Send out a “Dear Colleague” letter alerting your fellow policy makers about the National Day.

Parents:

  1. Encourage your children to take the Quiz on May 7, 2008.
  2. Download our Parent Quiz Discussion Guide in May and use the quiz as a conversation starter with your children about sex, love and relationships.
  3. Organize a local PTA/community center event on parent/child communication about sex, love, values, and relationships.
  4. Tell other parents and adults about the National Day

Adults who work with youth:

  1. Order National Day promotional materials (coming soon) and distribute them to teens in your area/programs.
  2. Encourage teens to take the Quiz at www.stayteen.org on May 7, 2008.
  3. Download “What Can Teens Do to Promote the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy?” and share it with teens.
  4. Download the Teen Quiz Discussion Guide in May and use the Quiz as a conversation starter with teens about sex, love and relationships.
  5. Alert colleagues about the National Day.
  6. Host an event in your community, school, or organization. Provide a place for teens to take the quiz. 
  7. Ask local businesses to donate incentive prizes (ex. gift certificate, coupon, etc.) for teens who take the quiz.
  8. Get teens to distribute promotional materials (coming soon) in public places (schools, malls, clinics, etc.)
  9. Teachers: Offer extra credit on assignments for teens who take the quiz.

Teens:

  1. Download “What Can Teens Do to Promote the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy?” for tons of ideas from other teens on what you can do to support the National Day.
  2. Take the quiz yourself on May 7, 2008 and forward it to your friends.
  3. Make posters promoting the event and put them in your school and throughout your community.
  4. Put a National Day web banner (coming soon) in your blog or online profile.
  5. Provide a link to the quiz on your MySpace.com webpage, personal website, or IM profile.
  6. Ask local businesses and companies to donate incentive prizes (ex. Gift certificate, coupon, etc.) for teens who take the quiz.
