National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL)
At the February 2002 meeting, the Executive Committee of the NCSL adopted the recommendation of their Task Force on Welfare Reform Reauthorization, and endorsed efforts to highlight the issue of teen pregnancy prevention, especially in the popular media, including a National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.

Governor Bill Owens issued an official proclamation that May 8, 2002, was National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Day.
Florida
Governor Jeb Bush issued an official proclamation that May 8, 2002, was National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Day.
Michigan
Governor John Engler and chairman of the National Governors Association (NGA), sent a letter to all the governors across the nation telling them about the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy and urging them to take part in it . Over the past few years, Governor Engler has made reducing teen pregnancy and birth rates one of Michigan's highest state priorities. In his current role as the chairman of the NGA, Governor Engler has encouraged all Governors to recognize and support the National Day and to promote the event to their colleagues and constituents throughout their state. The letter he sent includes suggestions for actions that governors can take to highlight the National Day and spread the word about it.
Governor Engler's letter provides a wonderful opportunity for you to follow up with your governor's office, tell them why it's important to take part in the National Day, share information about what you're planning, and offer to assist your state leaders in taking action to spotlight this exciting event.
