Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Teen Pregnancy

A Capitol Hill Briefing

On Thursday, July 10th, The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy hosted a briefing on Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Teen Pregnancy in conjunction with the CBC Health Braintrust, the CAPAC Health Task Force, the CHC Task Force on Health and Environment, the Congressional Hispanic Conference, and the Native American Caucus. The briefing washeld in 2203 Rayburn House Office Building at 3pm.

Despite substantial progress since the early 1990s in reducing teen pregnancy among all ethnic and racial groups, there are disparities in that progress. Recent data show cause for concern: notable improvements have stagnated or, in the worst case, reversed for minorities in particular. Guests joined The National Campaign and its Youth Leadership Team teens from around the country to learn more about new data that suggest the need for additional efforts supporting racial and ethnic communities that are disproportionately affected by early pregnancy and parenthood.
