Montgomery College is a multi-campus community college in Maryland that serves nearly 60,000 students each year through both credit and noncredit programs, in more than 100 areas of study.

Through a grant from The National Campaign, Montgomery College has been involved in a study of sexual choice-making among students regarding the issue of unplanned pregnancy and its impact on their personal and educational goals, their sexual relationships, and their ability to determine a future for their children.

Montgomery College has taken an innovative approach on its Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, including distributing resources to students, conducting focus groups, training peer facilitators, and hosting symposiums.

The Office of Student Life has also recruited 29 professors from various fields to incorporate the discussion in their courses. At the end of the project, these professors will make their syllabi available so they can be used at any college. For example, graphic design students designed posters to gain awareness of unplanned pregnancy as part of a class assignment. To view the students’ posters, and watch videos of the students talking about their work and Professor Robert Helsley talking about his decision to include the topic in his class, go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/thenationalcampaign.
